youssef tabsh foundation
The Youssef Tabsh Foundation has been established in the loving memory of Dr. Youssef Abdulkader Tabsh, a medical doctor, philanthropist, activist, Arab nationalist and true believer in the power of the people in bringing about a more socially just society.
Dr. Youssef Tabsh was born in 1951 to a middle-class family in Beirut, where he lived until his late teenage years. After which, he went on a scholarship and studied medicine at what was then the Soviet Union, or modern day Russia.
Throughout his childhood and teenage years, he was a strong advocate of pan Arab collaboration, social justice and alleviating the suffering of the less fortunate. Throughout his university studies, he further developed his activism where he led the Arab Students Society in his university and continued his pursuit towards supporting pan-Arab collaborations, upholding social justice and providing medical aid and support.
Upon his return to Lebanon, during the Civil War, he continued his political activism while also establishing the Lebanese Red Crescent to provide health care and medical services to the less fortunate and to support war victims. He also headed the Soviet Union/Russian Alumni Association in Lebanon. In 2018, he was a candidate for the Parliamentary Elections as part of a coalition of candidates coming together with a clear mission to promote for more social justice, upholding proper governance, inclusivity, localization of representation and accountability of the government towards its citizens.
Dr. Youssef Tabsh passed away on January 21st, 2022 leaving behind him a big legacy of social work, community-centered initiatives, political activism repertoire and a dream of a better tomorrow.
This foundation has been established to continue his mission, build on his legacy and keep the torch lit for the generations to come.
